A new charitable foundation has been launched to inspire young people to engage in tennis as way to build vital skills and promote a sense of community. Ten per cent of all sponsorship/partnership towards Liverpool International Tennis Tournament will go to this newly started foundation.
The Liverpool Tennis Foundation has been set up by Northern Vision, the company behind the successful Liverpool International Tennis Tournament, and will support projects and initiatives across Merseyside.
The Liverpool Tennis Foundation will promote involvement in tennis, particularly among young people, as a vehicle to engage in a healthy lifestyle, enhance positive transferable skills such as teamwork, communication and confidence building and to improve community cohesion through engagement in the activity programme. The Foundation will work with a range of partners, including; The Lawn Tennis Association, Liverpool City Council and of a team of coaches to provide this programme which is unique in the UK.
Anders Borg, Director of Northern Vision says of the new foundation: “We are looking forward to working with local communities to engage them in tennis as a way of developing positive skills and behaviours. This will make a sustainable difference to the lives of thousands of young people across Merseyside”.
The Liverpool Tennis Foundation is administered by the Community Foundation for Merseyside. Chief Executive Cathy Elliott commented: “We are delighted to be involved in this exciting initiative, especially in this Olympic year, to support important sports projects for the benefit of individuals and communities. We hope the Liverpool Tennis Foundation will create a sporting legacy for years to come.”
