SENSATIONAL MENS GRAND FINAL AT 15TH LIVERPOOL INTERNATIONAL TENNIS

Recent conqueror of Rafael Nadal and Thomas Berdych, 24 year old Damir Dzumhur from Bosnia Herzegovina continues his winning streak by marking his first victory on grass when he today beat world top 49 tennis ace, Italian stallion Paolo Lorenz

Damir is crowned Liverpool Hope University International Tennis Tournament 2016 men´s champion, winning 7-5, 4-6, 10-3 against Lorenzi.

Lorenzi took an early lead of 4-2 until Dzumhur made a strong comeback, winning the first sett 7-5.

His dominance continued into the second set, starting off with a 2-1 lead, before the gap lessened, leveling out at 3-3, and Paolo eventually taking the set 6-4, the second set slipping away from the Bosnian.

The third set was a championship super tiebreak, which could have gone either way. Again Damir took charge, and did not look back until it was 6-0, when Paolo made a stronger case for himself climbing three points. Unfortunately it was a little too late, as Damir continued to hit the winning shots – until it was Game, Set, Match and Championship to Damir.

Damir Džumhur, was last year´s finalist at Liverpool International Tennis. This is the second year in a row that Damir participates in the tournament´s lineup.

– I remember a lot of good matches, a lot of good fun and a lot of positive energy from last year’s tournament. That’s what brings me back this year, expressed Damir before adding that he will return again next year.

ITALIAN tennis ace Paolo Lorenzi was added to the Liverpool International Tennis line up just as the 34-year-old celebrated his highest ATP ranking: The Fiorentina fan broke into the world’s top 50 this month and has since participated in the  tournament Friday, Saturday and Sunday of the event at Liverpool Cricket Club.

Lorenzi has enjoyed his best years on the circuit since turning 30.

He reached his first ATP World Tour final at the age of 32, at the 2014 Brasil Open – but is still trying to get past the first round at Wimbledon.

In 2014 he had the misfortune to face Roger Federer in the first round, but he hopes that three days on intensive grass preparation on Merseyside can help him break his Wimbledon duck.

The ATP stars are joined today on Centre Court at Liverpool Cricket Club by Women´s finalists world number 73, Wang Qiang (CHN) and Norwegian tennis starlet Melanie Stokke.

Match is currently ongoing.

On the entertainment side of things, the crowd will enjoy tennis legends favorites Mansour Bahrami (IRA), Peter McNamara (AUS), Jan-Michael Gambill (USA) and Xavier Malisse (BEL) in both a doubles and a singles match later on today, during the fourth and final day of the 15th edition of Liverpool Hope University International Tennis Tournament.
