Merseyrail has been announced as a key sponsor at the 2015 Liverpool Hope University International Tennis Tournament.
Tournament organiser Anders Borg said that Merseyrail joining the sponsor group for the event, which takes place from June 18-21 at Liverpool Cricket Club in Aigburth, reinforced its position as a key player in the Liverpool city region visitor economy.
“We are incredibly proud to be teaming up with Merseyrail,” he said.
“Transport is key to keeping the city moving, particularly during the busy summer months, and visitors to the region will find the Merseyrail network very convenient.
“Liverpool Cricket Club is close to Aigburth station, which is ideal for people coming to the Liverpool Hope University International Tennis Tournament.”
Kaj Mook, Merseyrail’s customer services director, added: “We are delighted to lend our support to this very worthwhile event, and are keen to get involved with local organisations that add to the vibrancy of the Liverpool city region.
“We’re also determined to support young people and promote healthy lifestyles.
“We look forward to seeing young people in the community enjoying tennis during the free coaching sessions taking place in Chavasse Park in the run-up to the International Tennis Tournament and during the Nike International Junior Tournament at Wavertree Tennis Centre.
“We are also hoping to bring tennis to our passengers with a tennis pop-up area at Liverpool Central during the event.”
Last year, Wimbledon champion Marion Bartoli and tennis legends Greg Rusedski and Virginia Wade helped attract around 1 billion online views for the tournament and generate more than £4m-worth of coverage for the event globally.
